Summer puts more kilometres on your feet than any other season. If every step has started to hurt, custom orthotics might be the foundation fix you need.

August feet have stories to tell: festival days, mountain hikes, golf rounds, and three months of sandals with the structural integrity of a napkin. If your feet — or your knees, hips, or back — are complaining by this point in the summer, your foundation deserves a look.

Foot pain rarely stays in the foot

Your feet are the first link in the chain that absorbs every step. When their mechanics are off — collapsing arches, rigid high arches, uneven loading — the stress doesn't disappear; it migrates upward. Classic patterns we see:

  • Heel pain (plantar fasciitis) — stabbing first steps in the morning
  • Forefoot pain — burning under the ball of the foot after long days
  • Shin splints and Achilles pain in runners and walkers
  • Knee pain that flares with distance, not intensity
  • Hip and low back ache with prolonged standing

What makes orthotics "custom"

A custom orthotic begins with a clinical assessment: watching how you walk, examining foot posture and mobility, and testing the chain above. We then capture a three-dimensional impression of your feet and prescribe the device — arch profile, corrective posting, materials matched to your footwear and activities. This is a different product from a drugstore insole, which adds cushion but corrects nothing.

Just as important: we'll tell you honestly when orthotics aren't the answer. Some foot pain is a strength problem, and a loading program fixes it better than any insert.

Orthotics plus rehab, not orthotics alone

The best results pair the device with a short program — calf and foot intrinsic strengthening, hip control work, and footwear guidance. Support from below, strength from above.

The insurance window

Most extended health plans cover custom orthotics, and benefit years typically reset December 31 — late summer is a smart time to use coverage you'd otherwise lose. We provide all required documentation, and our front desk can help you confirm your plan's requirements before you commit.
